Polanco Home Furniture & Interior Decor Solutions was approached to provide both furniture and decor services for this beautiful, classic style home in the Civic Hospital area of Ottawa, Ontario.
Mandy Renfrew, the interior expert at Polanco, was provided the opportunity to add contemporary furniture and decor around some very classic and antique furniture items that already existed within the home. While the scope of the project was quite large, it was very exciting for Polanco and Mandy was able to bring many fresh ideas into the space. Mandy was able to add a modern yet elegant appeal to an already timeless interior.
In the front entrance-way, Mandy redesigned an Antique settee in Robert Allen fabric. A custom approach was taken in that a classic piece was redesigned to better suit the modern aspects of the space. A custom made mirror was added above the settee, and Sconces from Feiss Lighting, along with two flush mount Bling fixtures from Robert Abbey were included as the finishing touch to the space that introduces you to the interior of the home.
In the living room, Polanco Home Furniture & Interior Decor Solutions added a custom sized, Canadian made, Cosmo sofa plus from MarcAntonio Designs in a full analine leather with an oil finish. Next, another Canadian made piece, a glass & metal coffee table from Artage International was incorporated into the living room. Mandy hand-selected a glass table top for this piece to allow for a more lightweight appeal and for the detail and texture of a Surya shag carpet to show through. The whiteish colour of the carpet was selected to neutralize the brilliant colour of the sofa and provide an overall modern foundation to the room. Another custom furniture addition to this space was the installation of a specially made console as an accent piece to hold accessories. The console was created to a custom length which fit behind the sofa perfectly. Above the console a geometric element was installed through three beautiful diamond shaped mirrors. This element was then carried through into Robert Allen fabric used on the Cosmo chair and ottoman adding further interest and design. A finishing touch to the room was a set of creamy white, 100% silk, ripple fold drapes custom made by a Polanco seamstress complimenting the carpet and bringing the entire space together.
Mandy provided special attention to the dining room as well. The client already had a beautiful Mexican made, pine dining room table that was quite long and spanned the length of the dining room. The table was modernized with white leather dining chairs, again accented with ripple-fold silk drapes. Mandy decided to add another Bling lighting element here, except this time a large oval dining room fixture was incorporated to fit the length of the table perfectly. After some suggestions on artwork to include, the dining room was a design masterpiece.
The kitchen was given a more modern treatment. Mandy worked with existing cabinets introducing the modern colour palette carried throughout the home to this room as well. Canadian made backless counter stools in white leather, accented with silver nailheads added a classic feel to a modern counter-top. While Roman blinds in a patterned fabric were added over the sink complementing the unique backsplash tile.
