A Modern Masterpiece

Polanco Home Furniture & Interior Decor Solutions is pleased to share its latest client staging project, a beautiful home situated in a secluded pocket off the Ottawa River. From the exterior architecture to the interior design, this project allowed Mandy Renfrew to showcase minimalist concepts creating serenity from simplicity. Mandy’s approach sought to keep the design reductive through the use of clean lines, functionality with form, and a less is more aesthetic.

A minimalist-designed space will also seek to incorporate openness, light, and comfortable but simple decor and furniture. On the main floor, the neutrality of the engineered hardwood and ten-foot ceilings offered the perfect backdrop for Mandy to select finishings for this amazing new home. Our client’s contemporary fireplace is placed perfectly in the room so that it can be appreciated from the island, dining room, as well as sitting area. We chose two armless sofas in a soft grey, plush fabric and complemented them with a matching ottoman to bring the room together and create a comfortable space to enjoy the fire and conversation. The armless sofas were ideal for maximizing the openness of the space. The single piece of abstract art picks up colours from the fireplace and accessories found close by such as the white and silver candle holders.

Parallel to the fireplace is the Irpinia ten-foot-long quartz kitchen island with a waterfall edge that can allow entertaining of many family and friends or provide a simple seat to enjoy a morning coffee. Continuing along that wall is the dining area where Mandy chose an exquisite modern style dining table. With a very unique mechanism to make it expandable, the Studio Bugatti table from Italy is the epitome of balancing form and function. The mixture of walnut and glass made for the perfect complement to the wooden cabinetry, pendant lighting, and custom millwork found in the kitchen.

Leading up to the second level of this spectacular home is an amazing open staircase with glass railings. We arrive in the master boudoir where Mandy chose to keep the room soothing by working in softness through textures that create an inviting space to rest. The room is large enough that our client can relax on an Olympus chair with a curved back and unique metal detail. This chair was nestled in the corner of the room and placed under a neutral piece of art that continues the freshness of the space. Mandy selected a luxurious king-sized bed with an oversized headboard that creates softness and elegance in this bright open space. The expansive upholstered bed adds soundproofing for more relaxing and restful sleep.

Since the bedroom space is brimming with natural light from the oversized floor-to-ceiling Pella windows, Mandy had an amazing sense of warmth with which to introduce her modern style furniture and decor ideas. Accessories were selected to accent the space while still leaving vast amounts of counter and storage for functionality. A large walk-in closet with open shelving units was dressed up ever so slightly while still allowing for lots of storage. More white and silver pieces were selected to maintain the modern and minimalist style found throughout the home.

The same beautiful open staircase with glass panels leads you up to the third floor where there’s a bright and airy loft/living space. This room may as well be your favourite part of the home — it’s certainly ours! With all of the natural light flowing through it, it provides the perfect sanctuary to curl up with a book or take in the incredible scenery. The loft provides a gorgeous glimpse of the Ottawa River on one side, offering dreamy sunset views, with another large window on the other side of the room. Mandy chose to ground this living space with a very large Valentino sectional in a plush taupe fabric. The soft and neutral tones found in the room were accented with hints of gold, such as the floor lamp and side table. A pop of fresh colour was added by placing greenery in a vase on the floor right next to the sectional.

The pieces Mandy selected throughout the home accompany and continue the zen-like calming effect felt throughout. From the home’s architectural design to the elements that become the focal point of each room, the furnishings elevate the space and accentuate these aspects. Whether it’s the inviting warmth of light pouring into each room through the windows, the breathtaking views of tranquil water overlooking lush trees, or the wonderful people that are occupying the room at any given time, a well-designed minimalist space will always emphasize the calm and serene accenting it with intentional quality decor!
